Declaration of my dog owning philosophy

Tammen, Tristan & Chullain - autumn -08
"In true passion of dogs and in profound admiration of the Smooth Collie"
I am a dog owner with a huge passion for dogs and my home is a place where the well being of the dogs always comes first!
Collie since 1978 - Smooths since 1987
I will never accept that the smooth Collie is just a beautiful show dog - it was and still is a working breed with great capacity when given the opportunity to perform in various working fields.
I am the second generation of Collie enthusiasts and the first Collie made an entrance into my family back in the 40's. I bought my first Collie in 1978, and the first Smooth came into my life in 1987 when I also received my kennel name. The word "Sanningen" means the truth in Swedish and originates from my ideology on dog sporting - that honesty and responsibility are elements of top priority. Due to health problems the ambition of breeding in a small selective scale has been set aside - but I still keep the kennel name because it appears as if a lot of people knows about "Sanningens Smooth Collies" after more than 30 years with Collies.

My father as a 17-years-old boy, with his Collie "Kim" back in 1948
My dogs are high status family members and they all live inside the house. I take great pride in keeping and training my dogs with gentle methods based on what comes natural to the canine species. I prefere a lively temperamented dog with lots of self confindence, boldness and stable nerves. This, for the purpose of working capacity and for being able to live it's life to the fullest. It is also of utmost importance that the dog is friendly towards people, other dogs and that it appreciates to co-work with all kinds of people. These days I spend most of my time training my dogs, search training and tracking, keeping them active and making sure that we are all enjoying spending our time together.

I believe that the dog whants to interacts with us because we are social species - not to be strictly dominated. A good leadership means much more than getting a dog obedient - a good leader will always make sure that the dog/s have a great life - from all point of view - a much more holistic approach on dogmanship. Respect, trust, humor, knowlegde and empathy are important parts to work with as a dog owner.
I think that four parts are equally essential in terms of breeding: a well constructed Collie built for a long lasting lifetime, mental stability providing the dog to function and appreciating it's life, health aspects from all points of view and a beautiful Smooth Collie with grand exteriour and nice details. I always enjoy shows and showing a lot - however, my dogs always keep my full appreciation - regardless the outcome.
A Collie will never grow old and have a pleasant life - regardless how "sweet expression" and perfectly balanced head it has.
A well constructed Collie - with positive health aspects, and good mental stamina - provides good chance of a long lasting life.

SANDCASTLE'S TIMELESS TRUTH "Tammen" winning BOB BIS-2 at the Swedish Collie Club's championship show in Piteå 2006 under Mrs Carin Åkesson (specialist). Tammen has up to date 16 CC's 3 CACIB's, a multiple of BOB, group-and BIS-placings (in Sweden and Norway).
My professional and linguistic career includes teaching at the Upper Secondary School, teaching language classes but also canine courses for animal keepers. I truly appreciate Shakespeare and I also like to make illustartions with my pens and brushes.
